I’m a soon-to-be graduate of Waseda University, with a concentration in Media Studies. In my education, I gravitate towards themes of comparative cultures, power dynamics, and resilience — the ways in which people must forge on, and the ways in which they get stuck. My senior thesis, in alignment with this, critiques the touristic tendencies of the documentarian, questioning whether ethical filmmaking remains possible under structural inequality. Through my work, I hope to bridge the gap between art and service.
Since childhood, I have been fascinated by the power of storytelling to thread narratives that are wholly unique and personal, yet simultaneously universal. This is my objective with anything I produce, whether a mixed-media work or piece of writing.
In Tokyo, I’ve interned at Lia Film, a prominent post-production studio, and enjoy cooking for others professionally at Kuma Cantina, an upscale Mexican restaurant. When I have a second to breathe, I half-fill notebooks, force myself to run, and log films I’ve watched on my Letterboxd. Currently, I am reading Cal Newport’s Digital Minimalism (and probably whatever click-baity article pops up on my Substack feed, oops).
